Reading schedule

These are the books that I need to read over the next month. Somehow I need to figure out how to fit them all in, bearing in mind as soon as I get a list together I tend to read something that was never on the list in the first place!

I have a gazillion books out from the library, but the ones below are the ones I need to get through first:

The Fourth Bear by Jasper Fforde (someone else has this on request so I can't extend it)
The Ballad of Desmond Kale by Roger McDonald (I have to go and pick this up today, but I already know that I can't extend it any further because there are other people on the request list).

I can't extend any of these ones any further so I either need to read them, or take them back.

Cup of Ghosts by Paul Doherty
Guilty Pleasures by Laura Lee Guhrke
Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer
(I have started this but I can't seem to get into it)
The White Mare by Jules Watson (about half way through this one and really enjoying it)

Reading for groups - somehow I seem to collect groups of people to read along with so easily!

Dark Lover by J R Ward
Mirabilis by Susann Cokal
(need to have this read by 10 September ready for discussion)
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
Kitchen Boy by Robert Alexander
She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb
Trust Me on This by Jenny Crusie

Books I really want to read soon for no other reason than I just want to, and I am meant to be reading along with someone:

The Silver Rose by Susan Carroll
Heir to the Shadows by Anne Bishop

This list doesn't take into consideration any books that I have on request that I get hold of, and that other people have also requested so I only have the normal borrowing time to read them in, or any new books that come up that I just HAVE to read, and it also doesn't take into consideration any of the series that I am part of the way through and that I want to continue reading soon!

How do you decide what you are going to read next? Do you keep lists? Do you stick to the reading order you have decided or does that start out as just a starting point and you could end up anywhere?

  1. Hi Marg, wow you are a book addict!
I've enjoyed reading your book blog.

As I am nearing the end of the current book I am reading, I get all excited about what I'm going to read next. Usually by the last quarter of the book I pretty much know what I'm going to read. I just read what pulls me.

    Take Care,

    Margo.

  2. Oooh, a JR Ward on the list. I'm going to try to fly down to Melbourne so I can pick up a copy of the third book in the series, in person.

My TBR pile is ordered according to how much I think I'll like the book. Fave authors go to the bottom - I save the best for last. Then I go by reputation and, finally, by back cover blurb. This way, if a seeming dud surprises me, it's great. If not, then I usually still end on a high with tried and tested authors.

  3. I have a list, but I'm always changing it. I may have a book on there that sounded really good at the time, but then when I get a chance to read it ~ it doesn't interest me. I take it off the list and move on and decide I'll try it again some other time.

As far as the list, I don't go in order. If it's on the list, it's going to be read.

  4. I don't stick to any sort of list. My TBR is just a big pile of books, and when I'm done with one I look it over and see what I feel like reading next.

Though like you, sometimes I have to read library books first that need to be returned. How dare other people request my books! ;)

  5. I'm mood reader. So it really depend on the mood that I am in to tell me what to read next. I have piles of TBR and the most one that I want to read would be on top. Sometime what I put on the top, end up not what I want to read next.

And I agree about the library books. I read those first, before I can get to my TBR piles....

  6. Have you ever hit the problem on the head! I am forever changing my reading order. And I'm forever taking books from the library and returning them because I can't renew them anymore or find I just have too many to try and keep them out. I find that the books I own get pushed to the back of the reading list because I know I can read them whenever, whereas the library books are borrowed. Also, I find that I'll put up the image of the book I'm currently reading on my blog and then discover that I'd rather read something else, or I'm not that interested in it anymore, so I abandon it and people wonder why I didn't review the book I was supposedly currently reading. It's way more complicated than it need be, isn't it? I try not to have more than 5 books on my mental TBR list at one time. Anymore and I'm totally overwhelmed and berating myself for reading too slowly.

  7. Margo..nice to see you!

    Kat O - that's quite a trip just to get a book!

Dev - My only question about if your book is on the list then it gets read is....doesn't your list constantly grow?

Jennie - I agree how dare they!!! Of course it is perfectly reasonable for me to request a book that someone else has! LOL!

Julia - my mood does influence my reading. For example, I've listed all those books but it wouldn't be more if there wasn''t a book read in the next couple of weeks that doesn't appear at all on the list! LOL!

Kristina - sometimes when things get like this I feel totally under pressure from my TBR list!

  8. I was timing it with a business trip but when I found out there was a store in Sydney that had Lover Awakened in stock, I snuck out at lunch and bought a copy. And here I am, 4:35am and stuck on the spoiler boards. Can you tell I love this series? :-)

  9. Anywhere. I usually end up reading the last book I figured I would pick up. That's why I don't have a 'going to read next' section on my blog. I never know what I'm going to pick up although sometimes I know exactly what I *won't* pick up.

  10. I'm the same way. Every time I make a list I stray. Without fail! But going from your list I'd say read LLG's Guilty Pleasures, and JRW's Dark Lover. Enjoy...
