I had an idea for a BTT question when I was taking a peek at one of my bookcases yesterday and spotted my old copy of the Aeneid in Latin sitting there. Maybe this question has already been done—but if not… Do you have any foreign language books and if so can you (still) read them?
I don't own any foreign language books, and even if I did, I wouldn't be able to read them! I did one year of Japanese in early high school, and can still count to ten and say good morning but that is about it. I did 3 years of French in high school and can't remember much more than that! It's a bit sad really!
Hi Marg! Glad you decided to play. I'd love to learn French & Japanese one day if I have the chance...but not at the moment - because my 3 yr-old daughter come first! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy BTT!
Since I'm Portuguese, all the books I have in English are in a foreign language. I don't think I can read much French since I haven't used it since school. I can probably read Spanish though but that's just because Portuguese and Spanish are so alike.
ReplyDeleteI'm teaching my 8 y.o. DD Spanish right now and relearning it myself! Wish I was fluent...
ReplyDeleteMine answer is here.
I would love to learn Japanese as I have always liked watching Japanese shows and anime. I think their writing is beautiful too :)
ReplyDeleteMy answers can be found here
At the moment I'm learning modern greek and have collected some simple kids picture books (not so simple for the beginner of course). My treasure is 'to flaouto me ta eksi stroumf' - the flute and the six smurfs. Yay for comic books!
ReplyDeleteMy knowlege of Spanish and German is about the same (counting and a couple of phrases). My French is a little better and I can just about get by, but certainly not well enough to read a novel.
ReplyDeleteHi there! I'll master my written Mandarin first and then I'll move on to Japanese. I've done Japanese some many years ago, but I think I've given it all back to the teacher... Happy BTT!
ReplyDeleteI took French in school since 4th grade until high school and only a bit has stuck with me.
ReplyDeleteI think you have to use a language a lot in order to retain it and I never really had that opportunity.
I can read Spanish better than I can speak it, but I don't think I could get through an entire paragraph, let alone a whole book.
ReplyDeleteAnd this is OT, Marg, but I bought His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman today. I'm the first chapter into The Golden Compass. I thought of you when I bought it. :o)
I am afraid my foreign language skills leave a lot to be desired. My husband would like to learn Japanese. He's made efforts towards that goal, although he has a while to go.
ReplyDeleteA whole book in another language would be hard. I can read and understand things like the news but that' about it. LOL
