A month or so I took a big step, and cut down the number of books that I have out from the library from more than 50 books to just over 30. I am doing quite well at keeping the total down to a managable level, although I am have borrowed quite a few books this week. I have taken quite a lot back as well though!
The interesting consequence of having less books out is that I am able to read more of the books I already own, or I don't have to worry so much about the due date if I do choose to read a library book. Now this sounds like a good thing right? In actual fact, it is problematic. Last night I changed my mind about 6 times about which book I was going to read next, and it took about half an hour to finally decide! I never had to worry about that problem as much before.
So these are the books that I have checked out from the library in the last week:
Mutiny on the Bounty by John Boyne - I know that there are lots of blog posts about John Boyne's other book, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, but I don't recall seeing anything about this book any where.
Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie - I read the first book in this series a while ago. It's time to read the second book I think!
Wife for Hire by Janet Evanovich - I enjoy these rereleased romances. They are very silly, but good fun and quick reads.
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman - I think I will read this as part of the Book Awards Reading Challenge.
The Low Road by Chris Womersley - This is the April book for a group that I have recently joined which focuses on crime novels.
Imitation in Death by J D Robb - Next book in this great series!

Marg, have you changed your RSS feed recently? My RSS Reader won't collect it anymore!
ReplyDeleteGives me a "finish failure" message
I ahve tried a variety of methods ot get the feeds. The last one my RSS reader got was on 24 January. I'm getting via Feed My Inbox now.
Um, I don't think so. I would put up a post asking if others are having this trouble but if they are, they won't see it!
ReplyDeleteI've been avoiding the library because I really need to focus on reducing the tbr pile!
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy The Graveyard Book :)
I've heard a great deal about this book "Mutiny on the Bounty." Can't wait to see what you think about it.
ReplyDeleteI find it really difficult to pick books lately too! I had my readers vote last week, and it worked out well. :)
ReplyDeleteMutiny on the Bounty looks interesting!
I just finished Imitation In Death recently and really enjoyed it. I haven't found a bad book in this series yet! Enjoy your reads :)
ReplyDeleteOut of curiosity, whats the size of your TBR if the library list is 30 or so? My TBR is 130 so thats why my library number is around 1 or 2..(though I'd like to borrow more!). And is the size of your TBR something you keep in mind when going to the library? It is for me but I always like to hear how other bibliophiles operate, it's just interesting!
ReplyDeleteAlso I am not having trouble seeing this and I use my google reader to follow it.
ReplyDeleteThere are some great books there. The Graveyard book is on my TBR list and JD Robb books are great
ReplyDeleteI love going to the library and I think I have a limit of 30 books but I try not to check out more than 5 or 6 per visit just because I want to get through my stacks! Oh but it's so tempting :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the books!
I have Mutiny on the Bounty here to read! I must get to it soon.
ReplyDeleteCurrently I just started the new Ariana Franklin and it is about KING ARTHUR! So, yeah, I am in fangirl bliss for the day! (Which I probably knew, but forgot.)
I totally understand about checking out too many books at the library and then not reading all of them and having to return them. My librarian showed me a cool feature on my account that enables me to suspend a hold so when I know that I really, really want to read a certain book I put it on hold immediately and just put the date out for a few months so that I'm not overwhelmed!!
ReplyDeleteI just finished The Graveyard Book and I loved it SO much! Did you know he did a booktour where he had someone record him reading every page? The entire thing is available online and listening to him read the book was just an amazing experience.
ReplyDeleteLadytink, I think I did know that! Thanks for the link though.
ReplyDeleteStaci, my library has that feature as well. Unfortunately I am all for the instant gratification of picking up a book as soon as it is available, even if I don't read it straight away.
Kailana, the new Ariana Franklin is about King Arthur? Interesting.
Iliana, I think it would be really easy for me to slide back up to that many books out at a time, but it is definitely much less stressful this way!
Erika, the J D Robb books are great aren't they!
Janicu, I am not 100% sure how many I have on the TBR pile. There are 30 books from the library, plus I think I have about 150 books that I own but haven't read yet, and then about 2500 books on my TBR list!
Eva and Serena, I haven't seen anything much about the Mutiny on the Bounty anywhere. I must not hang out in the right places!
You might be the only person that complains of too many library books rather than buying too many books! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about the rereleased romances! I just finished one...and would have enjoyed it if there had been a sub-plot.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to what you think about The Graveyard Book. I really enjoy Neil Gaiman and this one is my my wishlist!
ReplyDeleteWell, King Arthur is dead, but he plays a part...
ReplyDeleteBookworm, I am planning to buy up big on the weekend, so chances are I will be complaining about both next week!
ReplyDeleteJ Kaye, I guess they were written to a formula that worked. The fact is that if it hadn't been for the uber-success of her later books they would have never seen the light of day again.
Amy, I have only read one Gaiman before, so hopefully I will enjoy this one too.
Great variety of books :) The only one I've read is The Graveyard Book.
