Two teasers for Teaser Tuesday!

I have two teasers for you this week. The first one comes from Millie's Fling by Jill Mansell. The fact that I am reading this book at the moment is in a way surprising because I don't tend to do rereads too often, but I think I read this something like 7 years ago. Apart from a very memorable ending which I am eagerly anticipating reading again, it is pretty fresh still! My teaser comes from page 479;

"Hey, excellente, merci beaucoup madamoiselle. Actually, " Hugh reverted to his normal voice, "the reason I rang was because -"

My second teaser comes from a short story collection by Charles de Lint called Moonlight and Vines. This is part of the Newford series of books. I think I have read one of the stories before, but other than that they are all new to me. This teaser is part of the short story called My Life as a Bird and comes from page 341:

Why are we suspect for trying to love ourselves, for being true to who and what we are rather than what someone else thinks we should be? We're so ready to betray ourselves but we never call it that.
