Library Loot

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and me that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

I only went to the library tonight because I was away and there were 9 items already waiting for me. the thing is that I know that there will be at least two more waiting for me tomorrow so I really need to get reading!

I wanted to give a special shout out today to Renee from Renee's Book Addiction who participated in Library Loot for the first time last week! This will be my last turn to host Mr Linky before Christmas, so I also wanted to take this opportunity to wish all the Library Loot participants a very happy and safe holidays!

Mr Linky will be at the end of this post.

Here's my loot for this week:

Walking on a Dream by Empire of the Sun - This Melbourne band scooped the prizes at the recent ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Awards, but I only had heard a couple of their songs that get played on the radio so I thought I would borrow the CD and see what I thought of it.

Blindspot: by a Gentleman in Exile and a Lady in Disguise by Jane Kamensky and Jill Lepore - This book was reviewed by Leya as part of the Historical Tapestry challenge - Alphabet in Historical Fiction. It sounded so good I requested it straight away.

The Boundless Deep by Kate Brallier - This is another book that I heard about as a result of the Alphabet in Historical Fiction, this time from Sarah at Reading the Past.

Shadowfae by Erica Hayes - This book was being talked about on Twitter a few weeks ago. I am thinking that it is a little bit outside my normal comfort zone, but it is also by an Aussie author, so I will give it a go!

Chances by Nora Roberts - contains two of her novels Opposites Attract and A Will and a Way.

The House on Tradd Street by Karen White - I've been seeing this book everywhere around book blogs and finally have decided to pick it up and see what the fuss is about.

A Carrion Death by Michael Stanley - Ages ago I joined a group of mystery readers and I have been incredibly slack at reading along with them. This book is February's book, so I am hoping to actually read this in time to discuss!

Emperor: The Gates of Rome by Conn Iggulden - Having now finished reading all the books in the Conqueror series about Genghis Khan, I am now going back to read Iggulden's first series, about Julius Caesar.

The White Queen by Philippa Gregory - This is my only reloot this week. Hopefully I will read it this time.

So, that's my loot for this week! How about you? Do you have some loot you would like to share. Leave your link in Mr Linky below so we can come and check out your loot!

  3. That's some great loot! The House on Tradd Street is on my list too. Sadly, I have not been to the library in a while to pick anything up, just to return. Trying to get through a few stragglers before starting with a fresh batch.

  4. I remember seeing Blindspot in the book store and thinking that it looked very interesting, but not buying it (I'm trying not to buy so many books lately; it's hard!). But if it sounds that good, maybe I should get it from the library! Also, I had no idea there was a book series about Genghis Khan, sounds interesting. I like historical fiction; I'm going to have to look into that Alphabet in Historical Fiction. It sounds like it could be deadly for my TBR list!

  11. Steve really loved Karen White's book. Had a little bit of paranormal added in.

  12. Jane Kamensky was my history advisor in undergrad. She'd told me she was on sabbatical for academic purposes, but really she was co-writing this book. Kept it very hush-hush, lol! Anyway, I'm excited to read something written by someone I actually *know*. Can't wait!

  13. Your loot looks very interesting! I read 'The White Queen' and certainly enjoyed it. (That's nothing new for me and Philippa Gregory novels -- I usually really enjoy them.) I'm very interested in Boundless Deep and House on Tradd Street. I'll have to check those out!

  15. I really like the library loot idea --- it seems like I bring home more books every day... but then again, I'm a librarian. It's hard to see so many pretty books and resist them....

  16. Lots of these look like great books, and some of them I've not heard much about. I am really hoping that you like The White Queen, I own a copy but haven't read it yet. I am also curious about what you will think about The House on Tradd Street. I, too, have heard a lot about it all over the blogs!

  18. I hope you like The Boundless Deep, Marg! The House on Tradd Street was a very good read for me. Different than my usual (I don't normally read contemporaries) but I plan to buy the sequel at some piont.
