I didn't realise that I hadn't set any reading goals in 2009. That was something I normally do, but obviously either didn't want to last January or never got around to it. The thing is, my goals remain pretty constant most years. They generally involve reading a certain number of books, reading more Australian authors, and that at least some of the books I read should be books that I already own but haven't read yet. This year isn't all that different.
Read 125 books - Over the last few years this number has consistently reduced. In 2006 and 2007 I aimed for 200 books. In 2007 I said that this was a reduced amount because I needed to get a new job. In 2008 I aimed for 150 books because I really, REALLY needed to get a new job! This year, I finally have the new job, and because of reduced commuting time, I have much less reading time, so the number of books I am aiming to read has dropped again.
Reading Australian authors - Every year I look at my list of reads and think, gosh, I don't read enough Australian authors. This year I am aiming to read at least 10 books by Australian authors. I also joined in the Australian Authors Challenge to try and help me meet this goal.
Read some Jane Austen - A couple of years ago I aimed to read Dorothy Dunnett, and didn't manage to even crack open a book, and still haven't in fact. This year, I intend to rectify what I feel is a major gap in my reading. I have never read anything by Jane Austen. I have watched a couple of the adaptations that are around and liked them, so we will see how we go with reading some of her books.
Perpetual Challenges - Last year, one thing that I didn't do very well at all is read for the perpetual challenges that I am signed up for like The Pulitzer Project, the Orange Prize Project, and the Complete Booker. This year I would like to read at least one book for each of these, if not more.
So, that's it. My reading resolutions for this year.
The Saturday Network
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating! And great resolutions. There are always more books to be taken off the TBR pile, lol. :D
I am planning to post a bit later about The Saturday Network. It's a good idea, and simple to participate in as well.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your reading resolutions. I just read what comes along next...
ReplyDeleteI should just cut-and-paste your 2010 goals and put them up on my blog (minus the comments about finding a new job).
ReplyDeleteI signed up for lots of challenges last year and then didn't keep track of which books I was reading for each challenge. This year, I am going to be much better organised. You have inspired me to write a list of definite goals to help keep myself on track.
Susan, excel is your friend! I keep lists so that I at least have some idea what I have or haven't achieved.
ReplyDeleteViolet, I read whatever is due next at the library for the most part! lol
Wow, very impressive list of goals. It always surprises me how many romance readers have never read Jane Austen. P&P is a must read. Good luck!
ReplyDeletePlease, please, please read Persuasion by Jane Austen!! I'll read it with you as I have it on my list for the Flashback Challenge. Then we can joint discuss and review if that entices you :-)
ReplyDeleteI have Jane Austen on my list of authors to read this year.Maybe I'll read Persuasion since Aarti is recommending it so eagerly! Good luck with your goals.
ReplyDeleteAarti, I'll request it from the library next time I am on the site, and a joint review sounds good. Vasilly could join us! LOL.
ReplyDeleteRenee, I don't know why I haven't read any, but it just hasn't happened.
Sound resolutions. I love Jane Austen and she's on my list to read more of this year too. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood resolutions. I am hoping to read more books that I own, this year, too!
ReplyDeletePersuasion is the only Jane Austen I have yet to read and it's been in my TBR for years. Maybe I'll crack it open this year :)
ReplyDeleteNew Australain author for you : M.K.Hume.
ReplyDeleteGreat goals. I get very lazy when it comes to reviews too but I'm hoping to do better this year. Oh yes, and continue reading from my stacks! :)
ReplyDeleteThose all seem like great and doable resolutions, and I hope you are able to complete all of them this year. I am curious about all those reviews that never see the light of day though! I would love to have a peek at those!!
