This book is set in England and Russia around the time of the Crimean War.
My teaser comes from page 232:
"But Kirov is the Emperor's man, through and through, and you mustn't believe everything he says. Oh, he believe it all right - and I dare say the Emperor even believes it himself. There's an honourable precedent for rulers not to let one half of themselves know what the other half is thinking."Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading. Head on over to find out all about it, and how to join in!
Don't forget to check out my current giveaway of the upcoming Geraldine Brook's release Caleb's Crossing.
Always leaves them guessing to what we are about to do...

An intriguing teaser. I don't usually read this type of book but I might just try this one!
ReplyDeleteSo, who's doing the thinking and who's leading the country :) I love it when reading a book is such a wonderful experience!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by -- Call my shallow, or something, but being the visual person I am, your blog/colors welcomed me and I am subscribing to your posts. (And I don't even care for the color purple :)
A trilogy is manageable. Her other series is so long! Maybe I will start here...
ReplyDeleteI'd love to read something by this author - I think it was her other series that's so long that I wanted to read but they weren't in ebooks. This sounds interesting as well.
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteThnx for stopping by my blog!
you choose a great teaser!
Kyanara
I think that would be a smart philosophy. Kaye—the road goes ever ever on

ReplyDeleteNever let the right hand know what the left hand is doing? Not my favorite kind of people, but a great teaser.
ReplyDeleteThe Crimean War?! That's not exactly a popular setting, kudos to the author for using it.

ReplyDeleteJess @ Gone with the Words
Great teaser! I always like when the second book in a series lives up to my expectations.
ReplyDeleteOh, I do like books with Asian flavors and Emperors and stuff. I'll have to scout out your review! Thanks for introducing this book to me, and also for stopping by my TT! I agree with you--I'd HATE it if my dad bethrothed me in today's world, though maybe I wouldn't have minded back in the day... Who knows?
ReplyDeleteRulers do tend to do that! Nice teaser ^_^
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by mine! :)
This sounds like another of her numerous books to check out. I've only read one so far but I really enjoyed it.
