The first teaser comes from The Point of Roses, a short story that is in the Yellowcake collection by Aussie author Margo Lanagan, and is found on page 25 of the collection.
Alex's free hand crept into Billy's. Billy went still, feeling grateful and responsible and unworthy.
It was only then I realized I didn't know the name of Elodin's class. I leafed through the ledger until I spotted Elodin's name, then ran my finger back to where the title of the class was listed in fresh, dark ink: "Introduction to Not Being a Stupid Jackass."
I sighed and penned my name in the single blank space beneath.

Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading. Head on over to find out all about it, and how to join in!
Hello Marg,
ReplyDeleteA couple of great teaser lines.
I don't think that the Patrick Rothfuss book is probably for me, but the Margo Lanagan looks intriguing with a great cover.
Unfortunately, although I was able to find some information about Margo and her earlier books, there was no mention of 'Yellowcake' on any of the mainstream sites, so I guess it is something unique to you over there in Oz!!
Yvonne
Is the Rothfuss book good? Everyone seems to be raving about him at the moment, but I haven't read any of his novels. It sounds interesting, from what I have read on the blurbs.
ReplyDeleteYour two teasers are brilliant. My TT: http://www.rundpinne.com/2011/04/teaser-tuesdays-the-kitchen-daughter.html
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteJacq, the Rothfuss books are amazing! The Name of the Wind was one of my favourite reads of last year.
Yvonne, I think Yellowcake has only been published here so far, but I think it might be out elsewhere eventually.
I'll add him to my recommendations page then. Dan Dan and Mark also went crazy when his latest hit the stores. I won't get to him straight away (my TBR pile scares me) but I'll definitely keep an eye out for him when I have worked through my reading pile :D
ReplyDeleteAn interesting selection of teasers!
ReplyDeleteI do like the sound of the second one. I always find that I end up adding so many books to my wishlist on teaser tuesday :)
Happy reading
Jules
Hi Jules. If you are going to add this book to your wishlist, make sure you read the first book in the series, Name of the Wind, first!
ReplyDeleteGood teasers! Sounds like an interesting class!

I haven't had much time to comment this month, but I can't tell you how large my wish list is getting from the Aussie Author Month.
ReplyDeleteWonderful teasers! I bought The Wise Man's Fear on audio a couple of days ago. Can't wait to continue with the story :D
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteMy teaser this week is from ‘Crossing Oceans’ by Gina Holmes.
Marg, I like the teaser from The Wise Man's Fear! Very interesting and makes me want to pick up the book!
ReplyDeleteGreat teasers! I especially enjoyed the one from The Wise Man's Fear, which made me chuckle a bit.
ReplyDeleteHere's
MY TT POST
Your Wise Man's Fear TT made me LOL! That was unexpected, but funny! I like that you did two Aussie writers, too. I'm putting together my reading/review list for the second half of April and I was debating "Cybele's Secret" by Juliet Marillier. I think that one is a must now!
ReplyDeleteI like both of your teasers. I wish I'd gotten my act together in time to participate in the Aussie Author's month. I'm just enjoying reading the posts.
ReplyDeleteMy teaser is at Quirky Girls Read.
A couple fo interesting teasers! WordTrix

ReplyDeleteMy TT: http://n-good-company.blogspot.com/2011/04/teaser-tuesday-half-broke-horses.html
Two great teasers, they both sound like really good books.
ReplyDeleteStop by and see mine and my giveaways.
Those are both great teasers, actually! Thanks! I love the combination of grateful, responsible and unworthy. That paints it perfectly for me. And Wise Man's Fear - not sure I'm interested in getting involved in such an epic, but that's a catchy few lines.
ReplyDeleteMy brother's reading The Wise Man's Fear now and everyday raves about it to me. That size is so daunting!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the title for a class! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteThe Patrick Rothfuss one sounds like my kind of book! Great teasers!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by :)
great teasers. And I love the cover of the Margo book, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I love your teasers :) I know quite a few people who would benefit from taking that class!
