It was Annie's birthday last week, and she didn't disappoint. Whilst I had heard of the place where we went, it was only due to the fact that they sell some scrapbooking type supplies. I had no idea that they did high tea as well, and I hadn't actually been there before!
Eight of us indulged in Sweet High Tea at Christina Re, all of us having been informed that we had to turn up in party clothes - no Melbourne black allowed! The tag line for the store is "Where a Girl Goes", and it is a very girly place, which suits Annie to a tea. We shared macaroons, tiny gorgeous cupcakes, and hidden on the stand below there were also some Belgian style chocolates. Delicious. Also on the menu, a variety of different flavours of tea. My choice was French Earl Grey, infused with a delicious bouquet of Rose petals and summer flowers. I don't normally go for flavoured teas as such, but this one was delicious!
Weekend Cooking is hosted by Beth Fish Reads and is open to anyone who has any kind of food-related post to share: Book (novel, nonfiction) reviews, cookbook reviews, movie reviews, recipes, random thoughts, gadgets, fabulous quotations, photographs.
Ummm this looks delish. Here I am having my coffee this morning and ALL of that would go so well with it.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like heaven to me. I love all things tea, and those sweets are so tempting :)
ReplyDeleteI've had several variations of Earl Grey, but never French Earl Grey...sounds different!
I have a friend like your Annie, and she is the first person I call when I want to try something delicious and new. She has taken me out for my first Thai and Vietnamese dinners, as well as introduced me to my favorite new fast food hummus place as well. She's a very good friend indeed!
ReplyDeleteAll those little cakes look delicious and wonderful, and that tea sounds like it was perfect as well. I love Earl Grey, but this version sounds like it was something special!
that sounds like such fun!
ReplyDeleteI had tea at the Plaza in NYC once...it was way cool.
Sounds a great day and the cakes looked delicious. About 20 years ago a friend of mine got married and instead of a hen night, she decided on a cream tea at the Ritz Hotel in London. I'll dig into the memory vault and photograph album and see if I can pull together a post sometime.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool place and your tea does sound delicious.
ReplyDeleteThat tea sounds wonderful! What a great friend -- how lucky you are to know someone like Annie. Oh and the photos from the tea look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a birthday lunch with your friends! There's an app for iPhone where you can search for tea places in your area, though there aren't any near me.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely! I would like to go for high tea some time. I never really done that before.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I do *not* have an Annie in my life. Okay, that's not quite true, I do have an "actual" Annie in my life but she is nothing like your Annie who knows the perfect places to go out. I do so desperately need one, though! And some really great places to go out, but that's another matter altogether.
ReplyDeleteI'm no great lover of tea, but I think I could be persuaded to attend high tea based on the delicious-looking pastries alone!
Everything looks beautiful and yummy!!
ReplyDeleteStaci, it was!
ReplyDeleteMegan, I am not a big tea drinker, but this was really good as a special treat!
Uniflame, this was the first time I had ever done it.
Heidenkind, it was a really fun way to spend the afternoon.
Thanks Beth. I am always a little bit conscious that my photography isn't that great, but these ones turned out okay.
Lisa, it was actually a bit of an out there choice for me. If I drink tea it is normally just a tea bag or plain Earl Grey at best.
Vicki, they had a variety of different beverages. Only thing missing really was champagne!
Anglers Rest, that would be a lot of fun! Retro high tea.
Caite, that would be an awesome setting to have high tea in.
Zibilee, it's great to have a friend like that isn't it!
The BookGirl, I am not sure that I had ever heard of French Earl Grey. It is something that normally seems quintessentially English.
Christina, now that would be a truly decadent breakfast!
I'm hosting an Afternoon Tea soon and I'm going to see if I can find your French Earl Grey. It sounds lovely. The cakes look quite yummy too.
ReplyDeleteWe do all need an Annie. Her birthday celebration looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds AMAZING. So jealous.
