Sunday Salon: Yes, it is a first world problem but...

I am a little bit upset today because yesterday my laptop stopped functioning.  Whilst this doesn't mean that I am entirely without resources,  it does mean that for the foreseeable future I am going to be blogging from my tablet,  the prospect of which doesn't precisely fill me with joy.

While I will most likely take it to a shop to get looked at to see if it can be repaired the reality is that it is about 6 or 7 years old and had been chugging along for a while now. The other reality is that I can't afford to just go out and buy a new one and it is probably going to be a while before I can.  Santa certainly won't be bringing me one because even though I practically live like a nun (well except for my potty mouth) that isn't enough to qualify me as a good girl!

I use my tablet for all sorts of things but blogging is not normally one of those things.  I tried to do the Virtual Advent post last night but trying to copy and paste text was a nightmare so assuming that I do keep posting I may have to change the way I blog. Even
just getting the Sunday Salon badge into this post was difficult.  I ended up having to copy the whole of the HTML  for my last SS post and then delete everything else in order to just be left with the image I wanted!

I was wondering though about the various apps that are available. Is anyone using any apps like the Blogger app in order to help them blog using their phone or tablets.  Looking at the reviews the official Blogger app had terrible reviews so maybe there is something else out there that is better.

I was intending to do a best books of the year list today but that will have to wait until next week now.  Maybe by then I will have figured or an easier way to do this blogging thing!

  1. Is the tablet an iPad? I've found the Blogger website is a pain, but if you can get a wireless keyboard to pair with it, it actually becomes relatively navigable. I'm afraid I don't have any app suggestions. The few I've tried to use have been rubbish.

  2. I have a wireless keyboard for my tablet. It was 30 bucks and makes typing so much easier. I am still not sure if I would blog with it, but if I had to it is better than the little keyboard.

  3. How interesting that you would write of this, because as I sit at my computer for the first time in weeks I realize that a large part of why I haven't been commenting as much as I'd like is because it's so ripping hard to do with a tablet! It somehow takes me ages longer than with a computer, from typing on the keyboard to clicking to each new page, I'm not sure what it is but I'm not nearly so effective without my computer. I do like my Blog lovin' app which lets me know in a daily email what my favorite blogs have posted. But, I see no easy way to do this blogging thing other than taking the time to visit one another and comment. xo

  4. I can't manage to comment from my tablet, so the thought of blogging from it makes me feel very weak indeed. I hope your computer is a repairable Christmas miracle, Marg. All the best!

  5. I hope your laptop is easily repairable! I thought a tablet would make it easier for me to blog when I got it but I was completely wrong and really need a computer - blogger comments don't actually work at all on it - so I can imagine the pain. :/

  6. I don't use Blogger but have also had frustrations using my iPad for wordpress blog postings. The text jumps all over the place so it takes forever.

  7. Dear Marg, I have a first world solution: I actually have a spare laptop in good condition, it runs Win 7 and works just fine. I gave it to my mother in Qld when I got my new one but she can't master it. I will bring it back down to Melbourne with me and you can have it as soon as we can organise a meetup. Internet access here is really bad so I won't be back here to read any reply, text me or email me at the usual address and I'll get a message that way. Lisa xo

  8. Oh the app to use is Blogsy -- and an external keyboard really, really helps.

  9. I only use a laptop so I am not of help. But I hope yours can be repaired in the near future. I was wondering if you had read The Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman because it takes place at a lighthouse off Australia? I just reviewed it over at http://www.thecuecard.com/ . Cheers.
