I'm reading
Recently some reader friends have been raving about The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson. It took me a couple of months before I decided that I would take the leap and add this to my TBR list on Goodreads. And it would probably taken me a while to get to it, except I happened to go to the library to return a book last week, and I walked past the new release shelf and this book was in it! Seemed like I just had to borrow it right?
Science fiction isn't my normal read, but every now and again I will read a book and wonder why I don't read more. So far this year I have read several of the Murderbot books and now this one. I am on track to read more sci fi than I have in years!
I'm watching
Friday night we binge watched British comedian Jack Whitehall's series Travels With My Father. The idea is that Jack and his 70-something year old daddy will strengthen their bond by travelling together through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
There's no doubt that it is scripted, but to be honest, I laughed so much, I didn't mind. We will definitely be watching more.
By the end of two weeks of the Olympics, I finally had my husband on board to watch a few events. I managed to catch some of the diving, cycling and track and field events. And now, we wait 3 years for the next ones!
I did also start watching The Voice last night. I watched a couple of seasons religiously years ago with my son but I lost interest a while ago. This year though Keith Urban is back as a judge (along with Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora and Jessica Mauboy) and so I am back as a viewer. However, the husband isn't interested and we only have one TV so we will see how much I get to watch.
Life
What a topsy turvy world we live in. We are back in lockdown again, and it's getting hard to keep up. On July 10 we were at the art gallery and out for dinner in a busy city restaurant. By July 15 we were in lockdown for 2 weeks. Last weekend we were out and were able to catch up with the kids. On Wednesday this week we had 0 cases in our state, and Thursday we were back in lockdown. At this stage it is only for a couple more days but I do expect that might be extended, particularly since the Delta variant is now in a couple of schools, including the one that my son used to go to.

Oh, yes, a topsy turvy world for sure! Stay safe and enjoy your books. Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES
ReplyDeleteThanks Laurel-Rain
DeleteWe are surrounded by Delta, Gladys et al. has made a mess of Delta :( I like watching SciFi but am rarely interested in reading it.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
Its pretty rare for me to read it Shelleyrae, but I am enjoying this book, and Murderbot.
DeleteI live in Florida and our governor knows zero bounds when it comes to stupidity. I am fully vacinated and hope so much I can still visit my son next month. It's been three years :-(
ReplyDeleteWe have discovered a series, new to us, called New Amsterdam. It;s a medicla series kinda like the old show E.R. So far it's good.
I have heard of New Amsterdam Tina, but I haven't watched it yet.
DeleteI do read some science fiction and will have to look for that book. We are back to masks being recommended everywhere indoors where I live but no lockdowns. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWhen we do go out it is masks both indoors and outdoors. I suspect it will be like that for a while Kathy.
DeleteIt is crazy right now! And The Space between Worlds looks like one I might want to add as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's really good Greg!
DeleteI'm not much into sci-fi either, but I've heard so many good things about the Murderbot series that I just might have to read it! We'll see.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you're back in lockdown. Things are still very open here in Arizona, USA, with masks being required for everyone only in government buildings. Those who have not been vaxxed have been strongly recommended to mask up this whole time, but now even the vaxxed are being encouraged to wear masks again. My whole family is vaxxed, so we haven't been super concerned about the Delta variant, but it is getting to a scary level. When will COVID every go away?? Sigh...
Susan, Murderbot is super good! Lots of swearing and stuff but very addictive reads.
DeleteI really enjoy a good scifi. This one has quite an intriguing plot! The last one I reviewed was really good: https://wordsandpeace.com/2021/07/23/book-review-project-hail-mary/
ReplyDeleteI've heard lots of good things about Project Hail Mary Emma!
DeleteSo sorry you're on lockdown again! The back and forth must be frustrating. I have a feeling we may be heading in that direction. I'm in California, and our cases are rising again. I doubt we will go on lockdown though because people here are already going crazy with mask requirements. I wish people would just listen and stop spreading and making things worse.
ReplyDeleteI hear you! Hopefully you dont end up there but I guess we just have to do what we have to do, right?
DeleteI just read The Space Between Worlds and liked it; will review it soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope you liked it Jeanne!
DeleteIt's very unsettling right now. Our county usually has 3-6 cases of COVID each day. A few weeks ago, those numbers jumped into the teens (16, 17 and 19). Today we hit 34. Very frustrating!
ReplyDeleteOur numbers sound pretty similar Les.
DeleteTopsy Turvy indeed. We've been in and out of Lockdown this whole year so far. I've got no idea where or when this is going to end.
ReplyDeleteWhich is what makes it all so unsettling right?
DeleteThanks for sharing this book recommendation for people who aren't necessarily huge science fiction fans. I feel the same way. I generally avoid the genre but I have found a few books that have made me wonder why I don't read more! My brother recommended the sci/fi action and adventure book "Time Plague" to me this summer and I loved it! Some science fiction tends to be a bit too "far out" for my taste, but this was perfect for my style of reading. It is fast paced and incorporates lots of themes that you truly believe could be a glimpse into our future. Time travel done in a believable way, multiple arcs and twists. A protagonist that feels real and easy to connect with and a great mix of humor, suspense, romance and drama. Annnnd there are some badass females in it too which is always a plus. I really hope you will check it out - I would love to know what you think. You can read more about the book and the series here - https://www.authorkimmegahee.com/
