Welcome to this month's edition of Six Degrees of Separation, which is a monthly meme hosted by Kate from Books Are My Favourite and Best. The idea is to start with a specific book and make a series of links from one book to the next using whatever link you can find and see where you end up after six links. I am also linking this post up with The Sunday Salon, hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.
The starting point this month is The End of the Affair by Graham Greene. I vaguely remember reading Graham Green in high school but I am pretty sure it was The Power and the Glory.
This month I have taken a very simple approach and I am focussing on the word green, whether it be spelt with or without an E.
My first choice is Summer of my German Soldier by Betty Greene which is another book I read in high school. I reread it back in 2006 (review here)
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - By losing the E off the name Green I have read a number of books by YA author John Green but not for a long time now.
The Green Mill Murder by Kerry Greenwood - I started reading Australian author Kerry Greenwood back in 2006, but I have chosen this book because of the green both in her name and in the title. This is the fifth book in the Phryne Fisher series.
Anne of Green Gables by L M Montgomery - I feel as thought I can't choose books with Green in the title without mentioning this book.
Evergreen Falls by Kimberly Freeman - What's more green than just green. Why, evergreen of course.
Bitter Greens by Kate Forsyth - My final choice is one of my favourite books by Aussie author Kate Forsyth.
Next month, the starting point is Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield.
i really enjoy kerry greenwood!
ReplyDeleteI am an avid reader and always wanted to be a published author. I worked one year to write my first novel. When I approached a publisher, Along with other stats the number of reviews on my book mattered. I used usbookreviews.com to get 100+ reviews. This immensely helped me get a traditional publisher. Now I am also looking to sell movie rights for my novel to a medium sized studio in Hollywood.
DeleteI read quite a few of the Phryne Fisher books and a couple of the Corrina Chapman books but it has been a while!
DeleteWell, I must also be a fan of Green! Summer of My German Soldier was a favorite of mine in HS and AOGG is still a favorite. The Fault in Our Stars is pretty sappy but I enjoyed it anyway. I started the Kerry Greenwood series but only read one - it didn't really grab me although my sister continued. The last two I don't know but they look appealing. Here is my chain:

I didn't love the first Phryne book but they definitely improved CLM.
DeleteI just tried this with my TBR file, and found that there are a lot of books with Green in the title!
ReplyDeleteI had a few more I could have used too Lisa!
DeleteI enjoyed your Green theme Margaret. It's my favourite colour. I've only read Anne of Green Gables, but know of some of your other authors of course.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if you can guess what my favourite colour might be Sue?
DeleteSame as mine, I suppose. :D
DeleteThat's a wide variety of books. No spoilers, but get ready for a good cry.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea using the word "green", very creative. Once I saw your chain, I thought there are so many books with green in it's title or the authors name, most of us could have come up with it. But we didn't, so congrats!
ReplyDeleteMy Six Degrees of Separation ended with a popular book from the last couple of years, Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.
I am really looking forward to the movie of Crawdads Marianne!
DeleteI didn't know they were making one. I'm always wary of films about books I loved that much.
DeleteAs I said earlier, you inspired me. My TTT this week is green.
DeleteThis is a fun way to link to many great books. I have End of the Affair on my list to read, and I loved The Fault in Our Stars, and I'm rereading Anne of Green Gables right now.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun Deb!
DeleteI loved The Fault of Our Stars (book & movie) and have The End of the Affair on my TBR list.
ReplyDeleteThe book and the movie were both good Diane!
DeleteI wasn't terribly impressed with the Greenwood books, but I found the TV series to be really fun, and I even watched the other one they did set in the 1960's where it is Phryne's niece who does the investigating.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really watched any of those Davida. One day.
DeleteI had a class on British literature in college that included a couple of books by Greene, including The Power and The Glory and one other, but I can't remember which one right now. I really liked The Power and The Glory as I recall.
ReplyDeleteWith The Fault in Our Stars, without giving any spoilers, all I can say is get your tissue box ready. You're going ot need it.
Definitely needed tissues for both the book and the movie Bryan.
DeleteThere's a lot to love about Green(e)... I remember enjoying The End of the Affair and have The Fault in Our Stars waiting on my kindle. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo-Ann!
DeleteI love these Six Degrees of Separation posts. I haven't read any of these, but I did enjoy the list.
ReplyDeleteThey are fun posts to do Yvonne!
DeleteJust "Simple" cooking--less is more. Nice work
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is good to just keep it simple.
DeleteLove the green theme. I must read some of Kate Forsyth's novels. Once again, an author I've been meaning to read but never got around to.
ReplyDeleteI definitley recommend starting with Bitter Greens Yvonne.
