Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week it is a genre freebie, so I thought I would share the longlist for the Sir Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction. I have been tossing around the thought of doing some kind of mini challenge within the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge but I haven't yet worked out what that is going to look like! Maybe I will have figured out by the time the shortlist is announced
To be completely transparent, I haven't read any of these books, or even these authors but there are a number of them that have caught my eye. There are also a wide variety of settings amongst this list, from Tahiti to Australia, to Belfast and London and more.

An interesting list - I've read just one, The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley by Sean Lusk, which I enjoyed. I'd like to read Ancestry, Act of Oblivion and The Romantic.

DeleteI've read two - The Secret Diaries of Charles Ignatius Sancho and These days. I have copies of The Romantic, Act of Oblivion and The Settlement, and I'm gradually adding the rest to my TBR pile. Some on the list I've never heard of - author or title - and there are some books I was convinced would make the list that didn't. Quite a few people are tipping The Romantic to make the shortlist, perhaps even win although in my experience the judges tend to go for something stylistically 'different'.

ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you haven't read Jock Serong before! I really must read him at least! I did hear him speak at the Willy Lit festival last year and it was fascinating!

I've heard people say this is Robert Harris' best book. I have only read one or two years ago but I think several of us enjoyed his wife's book, Miss Austen. These Days looks appealing without my knowing anything about it!
