Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week is a freebie.
You can't take photos in the store, so I had to take notes as I wondered around. My husband actually bought me a notebook in store, but unfortunately the dog ate it (yes, really).
So, my Top Ten Tuesday this week are the books that caught my eye while I was in Shakespeare & Co. Some I've read. Some I'd like to. Others were just interesting!
A Ukrainian Christmas by Nadiya Gabish - The cover of this is gorgeous and it sounds like it has some interesting content too!
Circe by Madeline Miller - This is one I have read before but I still picked it up off the shelf to look at it.
The Circus Train by Amita Parikh - The cover on this is gorgeous and it sounds like an interesting read too!
The Little Match Girls Strike Back by Emma Carroll - Not sure why this one caught my attention but it did!
Roger the Liger in Paris by Oliver Gee - This looks so cute.
The Writers Map edited by Huw Lewis Jones - How interesting does this look.
The Book of the Most Precious Substance by Sara Gran - The description on this one is interesting!
The Golden Enclave by Naomi Novik - I think this one caught my eye because I didn't realise it was out.
People Who Love to Eat are Always the Best People by Julia Child - I really need to get myself a Julia Child cookbook!
Paris: Biography of a City by Colin Jones - I wouldn't mind reading a biography of Paris, or some other big cities either!
When I was lining up to buy a book the two people serving at the counter were talking about Transcendent by Yaa Gyasi. And if you were wondering what book I actually bought it was Christmas Pudding by Nancy Mitford.
Have you visited Shakespeare & Co?
Visiting Shakespeare & Co would be a *perfect* thing to do for Paris in July--or even January!
ReplyDeleteAnytime really Reese!
DeleteThank you for sharing your visit to this lovely bookstore with us. A Ukrainian Christmas is beautiful and I'd love to take a long look at A Writer's Map.
ReplyDeleteThey are both very interesting sounding Deb!
DeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful trip. :)
ReplyDeleteHere is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
Definitely did Lydia
DeleteA Ukrainian Christmas looks like an interesting read.
ReplyDeleteHere is our Top Ten Tuesday.
Astilbe
I'd like to take another look at that book Astilbe.
DeleteTo go to Shaekspeare & Co is high on my list for next trip to Paris. Must have been great. Some interesting titles there.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get to go Lisbeth
DeleteThanks for sharing this lovely memory of a wonderful magic place! I was fortunate to visit it too, years ago
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome!
DeleteWhat a fantastic visit, I've not heard of the bookshop but if there are queues it must be really something special. Pity about the notebook.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly was special back in the day.
DeleteIt's depressing to hear that there is another place that used to be just a place to go and now has a line to get in. The former owner had an upstairs where people touring on a low budget were invited to crash, but that was really ages ago.
ReplyDeleteBeing a tourist gets more challenging all the time. What would Sylvia Beach think? (For those who don't know, she was the owner of the original Shakespeare & Co in the 1930s, in a different location.)
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
I suspect it has a very different feel than it used to! I did know about the spaces where people could crash, and where authors could write.
DeleteI look forward to visiting that store someday. :)
ReplyDeleteCirce is one I'd love to get.
Circe was great! I listened to it on audio a while ago now.
DeleteI was waiting for The Golden Enclave to come out! (I listened to the series on audio from the library.) How odd that you can't take pictures inside the store! I can see why the cover of The Match Girl Strikes Back would have caught your eye. Clever title, too! Nancy Mitford I hear about so much, but I don't think I've read anything by her.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Mitford either but I will try to before the end of the year.
DeleteSounds like such an amazing place! I don't know how you narrowed this down to just 10, haha.
ReplyDeleteThere were a gazillion books but a lot of them are the ones that we see in our bookstores. I tried to choose at least some I hadn't heard of before.
DeleteCirce by Madeline Miller has the most stunning covers! So glad to hear you visited Shakespeare & Co. I want to go in the future!
ReplyDeleteI hope you get there Sara.
DeleteFun! When I was in Paris, COVID procedures were still in place and Shakespeare and Co. had a huge line. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to wait in it. Boo hoo. I'm glad you got to go and find some great books as well.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
COVID procedures? What are they! **winks**
DeleteNow I want to visit Paris, again.
ReplyDeleteMe too!
DeleteOMG, Paris would be an awesome place to visit. That bookstore would be my first stop. I hope you get a chance to read all these books.
ReplyDeleteHighly recommend visiting Paris AJ
DeleteI can see why these books caught your eye, all such lovely covers! I've read Circe and loved that one but haven't read any of the others. I've added The Circus Train to my TBR after being entranced by that cover because it actually sounds really good.
