Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week the theme is Favourite Books of 2023.
I read four books that I rated 5/5 stars and they were
The Lost Daughters of Ukraine by Erin Littekin - I hadn't read any WWII fiction set in the Ukraine before (my review)
The Book Binders of Jericho by Pip Williams - I went to hear Pip Williams speak at Melbourne Writers Festival this year which prompted me to read this book. I still need to read Dictionary of Lost Words, hopefully before I go see the play in a couple of months.
Dreaming in French by Vanessa McCausland - I loved this book so much! Haunting and evocative. (my review)
The Little Paris Toyshop by Lauren Westwood - I read this as part of a blog tour and I was blown away by it! (my review)
In exciting news, I have already read my first 5 star read for 2024!!
Here are just some of the books I rated 4.5/5 in 2023
The War Nurse by Anthea Hodgson - I was lucky enough to hear Anthea Hodgson talk about this book at the book club retreat I went to earlier this year.
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - I was a bit late to the party on this one, but I loved it. I just finished watching the TV adaptation too. (My review)
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros - I expect to see this on quite a few lists this week!
The Martian by Andy Weir - After watching bits of the movie approximately 2,735,478 times I finally got around to reading/listening to this book. And it was good!!
The Last Train from Paris by Juliet Greenwood - I really need to read more of this author's books now. (my review)
Without Further Ado by Jessica Dettmann - When I read this book I felt like I really need to go and watch the Emma Thompson/Kenneth Brannagh version of Much Ado About Nothing. I still must do that!
This list is a bit of a mix of Australian and non-Australian authors, books I read for fun and for blog tours, some I reviewed and some I didn't and different genres!

DeleteI don't read a lot of war fiction, so perhaps that's why I haven't heard of these book titles before... except for Lessons in Chemistry, whose TV adaptation I'd meant to watch. *off to check out your review* and wishing you happy reading in '24 as well.

DeleteFourth Wing has certainly been on quite a few lists this week. I read The Martian when it first came out and really enjoyed it.

DeleteI also read The Martian after watching the movie (though only once), and I really liked the book. I liked Project Hail Mary even more! (It was my top book of 2021.)

DeleteI see quite a few I loved. The Bookbinder of Jericho is in my wishlist at Audible. I think I will listen to it.I don't know if I could read a book set in Ukraine at present because of the war now. Ah one 5 star read already!!

DeleteI loved the Dictionary of Lost Words but haven't read Pip Williams' next book -- which has a different title in the US, apparently, The Bookbinder. I still haven't managed to read Lessons in Chemistry and it does feel like I'm late to that party!

DeleteMy mom really liked Lessons in Chemistry too. She read it with her book club and they all loved it. I like the sound of The Little Paris Toyshop and will have to check that one out.
