Top Ten Tuesday: Books and blogging goals for 2024

Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader GirlThis week's theme is Bookish Goals for 2025 (How many books do you want to read this year? Are you hoping to read outside your comfort zone? Are there books you meant to read last year but never got to? Are there new-to-you authors you’re hoping to read?)

I normally don't do this post each year, simply because it has been a while since I formally set down any reading/blog related goals. This year, it feels like a year when I need to do this. I haven't got ten but here are the ones I have got!

My Goodreads goal is to read 104 books. This is the same goal as last year and is doable given that it is 2 books a week, but I don't want to make it any higher.

Read more Australian authors - I have been reading a lot more British authors, and have found some that I really love, but I do need to make some more space for new to me Aussie authors as well.

Read more historical fiction - Given I host the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge, I really should read more. If I read more Aussie historical fiction books then I could kill two birds with one stone!

Review both of those when I do read them - I am never going to go back to reviewing every single book I read, but I do want to make a concerted effort to read both of the two types I mentioned above.

I mentioned yesterday that I have committed to doing the chapter a day War and Peace readalong, so one of my goals is to make sure I actually do it!

Will this year be the year that I finally figure out how to build engagement on social media? Probably not, but I am going to try to build my Bookstagram presence. I only just started my Bookstagram account, and I currently have 182 followers. If you would like to follow me I am intrepidreaderandbaker. I will also follow you back!

I am also trying to figure out Storygraph this year, so I need to keep that updated.I

I used to use the library a lot but these days if I see a book I want I tend to just buy it. Good for the authors I know, but I do want to use the library a bit more.

  1. Great goals for the year! Are you in Simon's read along on Substack for W&P? So good. I'm reading Wolf hall this year! :)

    1. I am using that as my inspiration. I haven't really engaged with the readalong very much yet! I will though!

  3. I want to step back (way, way back!) from most of social media this year. That is, all social media except blogs!

  4. These goals make total sense. Good luck with them.

  5. I've followed you on Instagram. I enjoy the graphs that Storygraph produces.

Good luck with your reading goals. Here's mine: https://portobellobookblog.com/2025/01/14/top-ten-tuesday-14th-january-2025-bookish-goals-for-2025-toptentuesday-amreading-bookrecommendations-tuesdaybookblog-booksky/

  6. I am enjoying StoryGraph quite a bit. There are many similarities to Goodreads, but I am trying to divest myself of as many Bezos related things I can. LOL!

  7. Great goals, Marg. You will be doing a lot of fun reading. Historical fiction is one of my favorites. Curious how StoryGraph works. I feel like I signed up once and then did nothing with it. Good luck with all your goals in 2025!

  9. In the past few years I've been focusing on home-grown (for me) authors, and reading more Canadian authors. I would love if you could share some of your favorite Australian authors, so I can share my love.

    1. I have a tag for Australian authors but I will think about doing an updated Australian authors TTT post.

  10. Good luck with your goals, especially War and Peace. It's worth the read. I like StoryGraph a lot for tracking my reading and challenges. I'd like to post more reviews there as well.

    1. I am not sure whether I will post my reviews there. Maybe just a link to here!

  11. I am terrible at reviewing books but I'm trying hard to do better this year. Good luck to us both!

I've had a Storygraph account for a few years but only got serious about using it last year. Now I've established a habit of updating the page counts in my books on their app every morning over breakfast. I like the graphs they make for me. My username is jgintrovertedreader over there. I still turn to GoodReads a lot though. There are things I like and dislike about each site.

I just followed you on Instagram and see you've already found me. Thanks!

    Good luck with your goals!

I'll look for you on Instagram!

  13. Doing a chapter a day of War and Peace definitely makes it seem more doable. I have a copy on my shelves that's been there for... a while. 😅

    1. I am pretty sure that War and Peace has been on my shelf for more than 15 years!

  14. I can't believe I used to review every book I read on my blog. It was SO MUCH WORK. I'm much happier writing quick reviews of everything on Goodreads and only writing longer ones on the blog for books I really want to review. It's a much more sustainable way for me to blog. Good luck with your goals! Oh, and I just followed you on Instagram :)

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

    1. I don't miss the feeling of always being behind when I was trying to review every book I read!

      Thanks for the follow!

  15. Those are good goals. Once things settle down here, I hope to get on Bookstagram too. So I will friend you there and we will see how things go. Enjoy your reads.
