Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's them is Books Set in Another Time. You may be aware that I host the Historical Fiction Reading Challenge, so I have decided to share 10 books that were reviewed more than once in last year's Historical Fiction Reading challenge. Most of these were reviewed three times during 2024, with the last two being reviewed four and five times respectively! There were 600 individual titles reviewed for the challenge which is impressive! You can find more statistics from last year's challenge here.
The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn and Janie Chang
The Household by Stacey Halls
The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon
The Briar Club by Kate Quinn
James by Percival Everett
Gabriel's Moon by William Boyd
Every Time We Say Goodbye by Natalie Jenner
Hungry Ghosts by Kevin Jared Hosein
The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson
The Women by Kristin Hannah
Have you read any of these? I have several of these on my TBR pile.
Do you love historical fiction? Do you love reading challenges? It's not too late to join us. All the details can be found here!
I read The Household, The Briar Club, Gabriel's Moon, Hungry Ghosts and The Hazelbourne Ladies for the challenge last year. It's impressive that we reviewed more than 600 books. I hope we can do even better this year!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your ongoing participation in the challenge! I really appreciate it!
DeleteI already have some of those on my TBR, but I somehow missed The Hazelbourne Ladies. That looks fun!
ReplyDeleteThat will be one that I read this year!
DeleteI absolutely love historical fiction! After reading The Frozen River, I’ve started to read all of Ariel Lawhon’s books. The Women was fantastic, but then again, I also enjoy Kristin Hannah’s books as well. Kristin Harmel’s The Forest of Vanishing Stars is a memorable book.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read either of those two books. Will add them to my list.
DeleteI am amazed - I love historical fiction and yet I have not heard of these titles before! Although I've read books by some of the authors. So many books and so many reviews! I must get reading!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of books out there, of all genres, but I do feel like we only touch the tip of the iceberg in historical fiction.
DeleteI've read two of these, and I'd say a big thumbs up for James. The other one I will leave unnamed. I'm pretty sure I'd like The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club.
ReplyDeleteYou are the expert on historical fiction, I think.
Not at all, but thank you. I just compile the statistics, and read what I can. There are lots of people who read way more than I do! If I was going to one person as an expert on historical fiction I would say Sarah from Reading the Past.
DeleteHungry Ghosts sounds good.
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly one of the more unusual settings!
DeleteI haven't read any of these, but The Household looks good. Can't believe I haven't read The Women yet. Thanks for sharing, Marg.

I haven't read it yet either. I keep on hearing very mixed reviews of it!
DeleteSeveral of these are on other lists today as well! Must be popular books. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteMust be!
DeleteI haven't read any of these, so I'll have to look them up! Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually read any of them either!
DeleteI haven't read any of these, but I am curious about The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club.

Me too! I am going to be reading that one soon!
DeleteGood list! I enjoyed The Women but DNFed The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club--hard choice because I like the author.
ReplyDeleteOh. I am curious as to why that one was a DNF for you!
DeleteThe Women and James are perfect choices. https://headfullofbooks.blogspot.com/2025/02/ttt-books-set-in-different-time-recent.html
ReplyDeleteThey were certainly popular last year Anne!
DeleteJames was everybody's favorite last year. I should probably read it.
ReplyDeleteIt did appear on a lot of best of lists!
DeleteI'm on the waitlist for The Women - It'll probably be a while before the audiobook comes in for me.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought about audio for that one! Maybe I could read it that way
DeleteI've read 8 historical novels so far this year, but I've yet to review any of them on my blog. Hopefully, I can get a few of them up soon. From your list, I've only read THE FROZEN RIVER, which I liked but didn't love.
ReplyDeleteHappy TTT!
Good luck getting those reviews written!
DeleteJames was such a great read. I haven't had a chance to read any of the others, but I do really want to read The Women, The Phoenix Crown, The Briar Club, and The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club.
ReplyDeleteThose are all on my list too!
DeleteI've read five plus a different book by Stacey Halls, thanks to Helen's recommendation. I don't think I'd like James, although my mother did. Not a big Natalie Jenner fan, but I know a lot of you are so I did try one of her books. The others look appealing!
ReplyDeleteStacey Halls is on my must read someday list!
DeleteI like that you incorporated the 2024 Historical Fiction Reading challenge books. These are all new to me. I really like the cover of Every Time We Say Goodbye.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure I can come up with any more excuses to bring up the stats for last year! lol
